NewsHaiti: Daughters of Charity
January 20, 2010 The Daughters of Charity in Haiti have six permanent missions with 50 to 75 sisters. They provide education, healthcare, social services, and, now, earthquake relief. Last Saturday Sister Maria Teresa Tapia, Visitatrix of the Province of Haiti, announced the death of one of the Daughters of Charity. The Sister had been missing since the day of earthquake, but there had been hope of finding her in the wreckage. However, her body was found the day of the announcement. Sister Brigitte Pierre, DC, was born on February 14, 1965, near Gonaïves (Gonayiv in Haitian Kreyol), Haiti. She had entered the Company on November 28, 1997. Sister Brigitte was a joyful servant of the poor, competent in her work with children and a pleasant companion with a positive outlook. Please pray for Sister Brigitte, and for the Company in Haiti and throughout the world. If you wish to make a donation to the Daughters of Charity in Haiti, please send donations clearly marked for earthquake relief in Haiti to the Daughters of Charity Foundation, 9404 New Harmony Road, Evansville, IN 47720. The Foundation will forward 100% of your donation to the Daughters of Charity working in Haiti.
