Haiti: Dominican Sisters of Hope

January 20, 2010
Region 2

On Sunday, Jan. 17, the Dominican Sisters of Hope hosted a concert, Hope for Haiti, in our Mariandale Retreat & Conference Center chapel. We started by getting a local, very popular folk singer and activist, Pete Seeger, well-known for his association with Credence Clearwater Revival. Others volunteered to perform as well. Our chapel was filled to overflowing in spite of the rainy and icy weather conditions during the afternoon. Overflow crowds were sent to the ground floor where the concert was video-streamed live.

The whole production was a real example of a team effort. Everyone involved in the technical aspects donated their services. We began the plans on Thursday afternoon and phones were ringing off the hook by the end of the day. We took in close to $20,000 for Haiti relief efforts.
