NewsSisters of St. Joseph Recognized for 135 Years of Advancing the Mission of Catholic Organizations
March 16, 2009
Brighton, MA (March 16, 2009): The Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston are the recipients of the 2009 William A. McNeill Award. This award is named for Bill McNeill, the first President of the New England Association of Catholic Development Officers (NEACDO). The organization was recently renamed the New England Association of Catholic Admissions and Advancement Professionals (ACAAP). The award is a tribute for McNeill’s 30 plus years of commitment to advancing the mission of Catholic schools and institutions, and for the inspirational leadership that he has modeled to all in the advancement and admissions professions. On behalf of the congregation Sister Mary L. Murphy, CSJ, President of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, accepted the award during the March 13, 2009, meeting of ACCAP. The Sisters of St. Joseph received the William A. McNeill Award in recognition of their unwavering commitment for 135 years of advancing the mission of Catholic schools and institutions in the Greater Boston area. The Sisters of St. Joseph arrived in Boston in 1873 and since that time have served in over 130 educational institutions, over 30 health care ministries, and over 85 service ministries within the Archdiocese of Boston. Today you will continue to meet Sisters of St. Joseph in shelters, food pantries, parishes, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, retreat, chaplaincy, and campus ministry centers, refugee services, literacy programs, programs for at-risk youth, and more. Barbara Baxter, an executive board member of ACAAP, nominated the Sisters of St. Joseph for this award. Baxter, a graduate of three Catholic schools staffed by Sisters of St. Joseph, commented that she knows first hand what a difference the sisters make in all the lives they touch. She expressed gratitude for the work the sisters do to strengthen Catholic schools and for their continued commitment to advancing the mission of all Catholic organizations where they work. ### The Association of Catholic Admissions and Advancement Professionals (ACAAP) of New England is a local network of professionals and volunteers who staff the admissions and advancement programs of organizations in 11 dioceses in the six states of New England.
