St. Patrick's Day Parade Dedicated to St. Elizabeth Seton and Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati

March 4, 2009
Region 6

DELHI TOWNSHIP, OHIO -- March 4,  2009 -- The 43rd annual St. Patrick Parade, scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14 in downtown Cincinnati, will be dedicated to St. Elizabeth Seton and the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Inspiration Through Leadership and Charity.”

Throughout 2009, the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Charity by St. Elizabeth Seton, the first native-born American saint, in Emmitsburg, Md. in 1809.

The parade will start at 11:00 a.m. at Fifth and Sentinel Streets and travel west on Fifth Street to Plum Street. Visit www.cincinnatisaintpatrickparade1.netfirms.com/ for more information, including parking, street closings and parade route.

Sister of Charity Jean Marian “Cookie” Crowley enjoyed her role as Honorary Grand Marshal for the 2001 parade and this year she said, “I look forward to marching in the St. Patrick Parade as a member of the Sisters of Charity community. The parade has always been a high point for the people of Cincinnati and especially the Irish Catholic community.” Sister Cookie added, “Our float will display banners of the many schools, hospitals and ministries where Sisters of Charity served throughout the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for over 180 years.”

If you go, look for the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati and their supporters marching in the first Division (St. Patrick Division). They’ll be sporting green derbies and leading the parade!
