Sister of St. Joseph Publishes Labyrinth Book for Educators

February 10, 2009
Region 1

HOLYOKE, MA -- Sister of St. Joseph of Springfield Lorry Villemaire has published The Labyrinth Experience, a resource for educators to use in introducing students to labyrinths. The book provides information about the history of labyrinths, themes and designs, and instructions on how to walk a labyrinth.

Sister Villemaire says the book explains how a labyrinth can be used to increase interest in all academic subjects. “Connecting labyrinths with academic subjects fosters growth in students’ self esteem, respect, positive thinking and relaxation,” she says. Music, Art, Language, History, Problem Solving, and many other subjects can be tied into labyrinths. The book includes creative projects, games and exercises.

Sister Villemaire has more than forty years of teaching and curriculum development experience on all levels of education: elementary, high school, college and adult and vocational education. An earlier book by Sister Villemaire, Grammar and Writing Skills for the Health Professional, was published through Delmar/Cengage Learning and is in its second edition. Sister Villemaire is presently a Veriditas-certified labyrinth facilitator conducting walks in prisons, retreat centers, community centers, churches of all denominations, park services and schools from pre-K through college throughout Western Massachusetts.
