Dear NCNWR Friends,

The Board of Directors talks with members at the business meeting on Friday

Can you believe that many of us were in New Orleans two weeks ago for the NCNWR annual conference? After three days of inspiring presenters like our keynote speaker, Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ, and numerous networking experiences with our NCNWR colleagues, the NCNWR Board of Directors held its post-conference board meeting. (Yes, we did get to spend an extra day in New Orleans – one of the many perks of board membership!)

As always, your needs and input were the top items on our agenda. Our first act of business was to review the 61 conference evaluations and discuss the feedback from the Dreaming Session which was held on the last day of the conference. Some of the comments about the conference include:

“Very helpful conference; as a new member, I learned much.” –
Belinda Davis, Director of Communications, Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul
St Louis, MO

“I enjoy the philosophical and theory presentations (Sisters Helen and Judy this year) but the nuts and bolts are more useful—we need one session every year on what’s new in technology or what’s out there that we should know about (Yammer, Animoto, companies that help with online giving, other social media).” –
Sarah Jenkins, Communication Director, Sisters of St Joseph of Concordia, KS

“It’s amazing to see all the growth, development and professionalism among us.” –
Sister Lorraine Wesolowski, OSF, NCNWR Founding Member

We also analyzed our finances, reviewed our new Conference Planning Guide compiled by Susan Oxley, our National Coordinator which will ensure smooth planning for all NCNWR Conferences, listened to reports from our LCWR and NRVC liaisons, Annmarie Sanders, IHM, and Carol Schuck Scheiber, respectively, and decided our next steps in terms of Strategic Planning. (We plan to work with a facilitator at our May board meeting in Cincinnati to continue this process.) We also started to discuss the NCNWR workshop at the NRVC Convocation in 2012 and plan the new concept of Friends of NCNWR which was approved by the membership at the business meeting on Friday.

We also discussed the different types of NCNWR membership, Individual and Associate, reviewed several needed policies and looked at our priorities for 2012. Last but not least, we said farewell to our outgoing board members, Chair Kim Cavallero and Treasurer Jennifer Roseman, and affirmed our new executive team for 2012, Chair Julie Gilberto-Brady, Vice-Chair Debbi Della Porta, and Treasurer Sister Barbara Mullen, CSJ.

We closed our meeting with a reflection based on the book, The Monastery of the Heart: An Invitation to a Meaningful Life by Sister Joan Chittister: (Printed here for educational purposes)

“God of our coming and going,
God of our past, our present, and our future,
we have met, we have celebrated, we have remembered.
We also have visioned, shared hopes, dreamed dreams.
And now we go out into the world in which we do
most of our living and our ministering.
As we go out, remind us that we do not go alone.
As we go out, remind us that we go with a mission.”

Our goal is to be a network of professional support and education for you, our members. Hopefully, this year’s conference accomplished that. Our dreaming and strategic planning will continue that process into the future.

Let us know of any thoughts or suggestions for other ways we can provide you with the support and resources you need, especially if you were unable to attend this year’s conference or the dreaming session. We look forward to hearing from you.
