Kim Cavallero from Society of the Holy Child Jesus - American Province

Kim Cavallero Director of Communications Society of the Holy Child Jesus Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania NCNWR Region 3 How Long In Congregation: 7 Years
Mission: The Society's mission is to help others to believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world. The motto their Foundress, Cornelia Connelly, gave to the Society is "actions not words."
Ministries: Since the Society's founding in 1846, education has been at the heart of the Sisters' mission. Today, the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus continue to serve as educators in the broadest sense of the word through their ministries in teaching, spiritual direction, social work, legal work, health care, parish administration, and pastoral care. Throughout the world, the Sisters of the Holy Child serve in schools, colleges, universities, parishes, health care organizations, and social service and legal centers. The Society has also founded 14 schools, one college, and several social service programs.
Most Rewarding: Day-after-day, I watch the sisters change lives. They don't do it for fame or fortune or even a little recognition. And even in the face of discouragement, when they are fighting odds you don't think they have a chance against, they respond with patience, persistence, and prayer. And nine times out of ten, they accomplish what they set out to do. So, whenever I'm down on my luck or feeling like the world is in complete disarray, I remember where a little patience, persistence, and prayer can get you. My work with the Sisters reminds me that we are all put on this earth for a reason and we all have something to contribute. They remind me everyday that we are all here to use our God-given talents.
Most Challenging: Juggling! As a small office (until recently, I was a department of one), trying to manage the many different responsibilities that fall under the realm of communications can be overwhelming--from public relations to publications to website development and management and beyond--it's a lot!
Member How Long: 5 years
Grateful For: Over the last several years, I have counted on this organization countless times--through the list serv, at the conferences, and through my regional group. And every time, the members of this organization have delivered. Most of us run small offices. And when you feel isolated or are searching for ideas, it is refreshing to have the experience of colleagues from near and far to rely upon--colleagues who understand the unique challenges that come with being a communicator for orders of women religious.
Education: Both my bachelor's and master's degrees are in communications.
Volunteer: I volunteer with the Animal Coalition of Delaware County, an organization that is dedicated to finding loving homes for adoptable, homeless pets.
